Blogger Recognition Award

Hey everyone! Last week the lovely Chloe at C.K Beauty nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award and it really put a smile on my face. For a number of reasons, my blog has had to take a back seat lately, so it was nice to be included and know that I hadn’t been forgotten! So thanks Chloe!

Why did you start blogging?

I first started my blog to use it as a brain dump. My brain felt so clogged up and I felt like I had way too much stuff on my mind as well as on my plate so I thought this would be a good way to get things off my chest. It’s been just over a year since I started and I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I ever did, as well as one of the only things I’ve carried on with too! I’ve ‘met’ some truly fabulous people on my blogging journey and that in itself is a reason to keep going!

The blogging world is such a competitive place, but because we all have something different to offer it’s also the most supportive place I’ve been a part of too. You do get the odd numpty who likes to ruffle people’s feathers but there are a lot more of us who politely tell them to go forth and multiply so they’re quickly forgotten!

I never put my blog in a niche, and that was simply because I didn’t want to! I waffle on about so many different things, I didn’t want to limit myself to what I could post about so I’m calling myself a lifestyle blogger as that’s where I think I fit in the most. I’ve never had a posting schedule, as basically I’m awful at sticking to things like that, but also because I honestly don’t think I could find things to write about that often! I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to keep doing things regularly but nowadays I just write as and when I get the time, and when I get an idea!

2 pieces of advice for new bloggers

If I could give any advice to a new blogger, I would firstly suggest that creating accounts on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are a must! It can be a bit tough maintaining a regular posting schedule and building up a following but they are definitely the main drivers of traffic to my blog (when I get any lol!)

Secondly, like Chloe mentioned, I would definitely say that trying not to get sucked into your views, visitors and follower numbers can be really tough so try to be aware of that. I went through a bit of an obsessive stage checking my views every couple of hours and then getting disheartened when they hadn’t changed since the last time I looked. Seriously, unless you have a LOT of time to spend on your blog and promoting it, just let it ride and see how it goes! Some days I literally get 0 (yes that’s a zero) views because I don’t post very often! I’ve got 3 kids, a husband, full-time job and a house to take care of and check up on so writing new blog posts have to happen when they happen!

The rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you
  • Write a blog post on your website showing the award
  • Tell the story of why you started blogging
  • Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers
  • List 15 other bloggers you want to nominate
  • Let those 15 bloggers know

My nominations

So, there we go! I really do appreciate the nomination Chloe, don’t forget to check out her blog here!

Thanks for reading! Until next time, Steff x

  1. Congratulations! I agree with you on both tips actually! Having an account on social media is a must to be able to reach more readers. And I wouldn’t worry about views either, as long as you’re doing the best you can to create your best content, views will happen.

    1. Thanks Ray! I remember posting my first ever post and thinking ‘so how do people find it?’ 😂 Exavtly, unless it’s your job you have to know where to draw the line!

  2. Nice one with the nomination! And really love the advice you gave to new bloggers I recently just got an Instagram for my blog and it has really helped out

  3. Congratulations! This is excellent advice for new blogger. I do agree that it can be difficult to keep up with it all at first, but it’s so important to have those accounts right from day one and do your best to keep them going along with your blog.

    1. Thanks! Yes definitely, you can’t expect to write a post and let it promote itself but at the same time you can’t be too hard on yourself!

What do you think? Let me know...
