My Blog Plan

If you’ve seen my tweets and Insta posts recently, you’ll have read that I’ve been trying hard to create my blog plan. Yes, that’s right… an actual, real-life blogging plan! It’s taken me two years to realise that my blog means more to me than just a hobby. But, it’s nowhere near big enough to become my full-time job, and I’m not sure I’d want that tbh! So, I thought I’d write a post to let you guys know what my plan involves and how I’m planning to be able to stick to it.

My Goal

To have a plan, you’ve got to have a goal or target that you’re aiming for right?! So, my overall goal is to create content that other bloggers look forward to reading. I also want to continue enjoying to write. And this is how I’m hoping to do that…

Ok, let me start by saying that I know there are probably hundreds of free printable planners out there. But, because I’m a slight loser and control freak (lol), I’ve created my own spreadsheet on Excel. That way, I can have whatever info I choose on there, and adapt it as and when I want to. So, on my spreadsheet I have tabs for blog planning and social media planning for each month. On the blog tab I’ll plan things like when to publish new posts, when to take pictures for it, etc. I’ll also be using the blog tab to schedule in times for checking SEO and readability on my posts. I actually started updating old posts for SEO recently, and I actually quite enjoyed it! On the social media tab, I have a calendar layout for scheduling posts on Twitter, Insta and Pinterest. I’ll also use that page for researching hashtags, photos to post, and things like that.

This is a very basic start to my plan, but I think it’s going to work once I’ve finished adding to it!

I’m also going to try and create images in Canva in advance. So far, I’ve only created images when a post is ready to be promoted. I’ve only really used it for images on the blog post itself and Pinterest. But, I’m going to use it for all of my social media to promote it and try and get a more uniform look to my feeds, especially Insta. I’ve very recently started to create a different look to my Instagram account by adding filters and frames to my posts. So hopefully using similar images to promote my blog posts will tie it all together nicely.

Anything I’ve missed?

So, that is my plan so far. It’s obviously a very basic plan for my blog posts and social media accounts but it’s a start! I’ve literally never planned anything to do with my blog! I’ve just written posts as and when I’ve felt like it! But, I really hope that with this bit of planning I’ll start getting some regular traffic and slowly start to build up my followers. If you’re new to the blogging world, have a read of my previous post about some things I wish I’d known before I started. If I’ve missed anything major, please let me know in the comments!

Until next time, Steff xx

    1. Thank you for reading! I’m glad you like it 🙂 It was fairly easy to do, let me know if it helps you out! xx

    1. That’s what I’ve been doing but I just don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere. I literally only get traffic when I post so thought more consistency can only help that! Thanks for reading x

  1. Organisation is definitely key! Posting at a set time on the same day every week is pretty important, as your readers will eventually know to look out for your articles! The planner will definitely help with that!

    1. Yes, I’ve noticed a lot of people post at the same time every week… I’m not sure I have enough content for that just yet but I’m sure it’ll all come with time. Thank you for reading! x

  2. Great plan and yesss spread sheets!!! Sorry the nerdy graduate in me. I’m interested to use Canva but paying premium memberships don’t seem too appealing unless I had all my content ready to edit with photos and such. Would be interesting to hear how you’re plan works out for you’re blog.

    1. Haha good to know I’m not the only one who loves a spreadsheet! I don’t pay for anything on Canva, it’s all free stuff I use! Thank you for reading x

    1. Thank you! I’m sure it’ll evolve over time but I’m pleased with it so far. Now just to fill it in and keep going! X

  3. It’s so exciting to read about bloggers’ goals. I often make time to nurture my email subscribers as well and do a lot of promotion so other people know my blog exists haha. How intense is blogging, right? In any case, I wish you all the best, Steff 🙂

    1. I haven’t got a proper email list yet – I don’t think anyway! There is SO much I could do but I’m doing it in baby steps and I’ll get there eventually! It really is a neverending list of lists to get through! Thank you Corinne, you too x

  4. This is so organised! I need to be more organised with my social media posting but like you, I always leave my canva to the last minute too! Thanks for the inspo towards getting my act together! Here’s to blogging better!

  5. Being organised has never been my strong point but I love the idea of creating a spreadsheet. I may have to ask the hubby to help as I’m no good with excel, but he’s a pro 😂 xx

    1. It’s honestly a very basic spreadsheet, no formulas or anything! I just thought it would be easier than carrying a paper version and it can be adapted as and how you please too! x

  6. I love these ideas. I’m not sure what Canva is, so I will look in to that right away. Thank you for the post. I love how organized you are.

    1. Canva is a graphics designing app, so easy to use! If I can get by on it, anyone can! Thank you for reading x

  7. I think you’re on the good track! 😀 I’m also blog planning since the last month, although I’m keeping my publication dates flexible to accommodate extra workload and health issues. I love your spreadsheet! Can I use a similar design to experiment with new ways of planning for my blog(s)?

  8. As someone who loves spreadsheets and to-do lists, your plan for your blog is just *chef’s kiss*. I’m still new-ish to the whole blogging world, so there’s nothing I can contribute at this point, but I definitely feel inspired to do more planning when it comes to my social media posts! Thanks for this!

    1. It seems there are a lot of spreadsheet lovers out there! Welcome to the world of blogging, I hope you’re enjoying it so far! Thank you for reading x

  9. I connected so deeply with the reasons why you write; I feel like writing always comes from the heart when we write to share, and are happy writing.
There is no better way to find the spreadsheet you need then to make it, and your creation looks simple and easily flexible; two things I love.

What do you think? Let me know...
