Upping Your Insta Game

Hey, me again! This time, I’m back with a post about good old Instagram! I’m by no means an expert on the app. But I have picked up some helpful tips that I’ve been trying out while upping my Insta game so I thought I’d share with you!

Interaction

Ok, this may seem really obvious. But if you don’t dish out those likes and comments on others’ posts, how is anyone going to know you’re there? I’m not saying like and comment on eeeeeverything, cos that’s a bit weird. But if the post catches your eye, like it! If it makes a thought pop into your head, comment it! A little tip though, make sure your comments are genuine. Take the time to mention the poster’s name, and if you love the pic explain why! That way you won’t come across as spammy and it’ll increase your chances of striking up a convo with someone new!

Replies

When you post on Instagram, it’s best to be able to reply to comments as soon as you receive them. Doing this shows you are an active user and that you actually read comments on your posts! Personally, I enjoy seeing replies from someone whose post I’ve commented on. It’s nice to know they’ve taken the time to respond so the least we can do is the same, right!? It also helps your post get shown to more people as Instagram will count double the comments so will bump your post up the feed.

Insta Stories

If you’re anything like me, someone telling you that you should be posting on Instagram stories will make you shudder. I hate the sound of my own voice, and am certainly not feeling my face on video for all to see. But, posting on your stories will help your engagement massively. It doesn’t have to be video based, it can be pictures or even just text. Your stories are like a behind-the-scenes insight for your followers. So it gives them a more personal feel for what goes on in your day-to-day life. Kinda like a behind the scenes thing!

Brighten up your feed

When it comes to your feed, it needs to be inviting and intriguing so a new person checking out your profile wants to follow you! I found the best thing to do would be to think about what would make you want to hit the follow button when looking at someone’s feed. If it was dark and dingy photos, chances are you probably wouldn’t. But if the pics are light, airy, maybe have some kind of theme, you’d be more than likely to give them a follow right?! Some people go all out and have a colour theme, or a certain order they post different types of pics in. Personally, I don’t have the creativity or patience to go that far! But I must admit it does look great! I use an app called Lightroom to edit my photos… give it a go!

Follow your competition

You may think following those who are your competition is a silly thing to do. But you need to get yourself out there and get recognised! Follow other people in your niche and get chatting to them! The thing is, they’re not really your competition. The blogging world is so vast it’s impossible to say one person is the one you’re up against! We’re all blogging but we’re all doing it differently so follow each other! Go do it!

Call To Action

I’ve seen this written a lot and at first I had no idea what it was! I now know that leaving a Call To Action (CTA) at the end of your Insta post is more likely to get people engaging with you. Whether you ask them to leave a comment about something, ask what they’re doing that day, or ask for their opinion on something. It’s all about getting that conversation going and getting to know your followers! And that’ll help with getting your post shown to more people too!

So, those are my tips for upping your Insta game! Is there anything you’ve tried and tested on Instagram that’s helped your engagement? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, Steff xx

Light, girlie photos weren’t me and I think that showed!
