8 Blog Maintenance Tasks you Should be Doing

Hey! Welcome back! In this post, I’m going to be telling you all about the 8 blog maintenance tasks you should be doing. Kind of like blogging admin to keep everything running smoothly. The list isn’t exhaustive, so please feel free to add anything I’ve missed in the comments. But I think these are the main ones… so, here they are!

Update Old Posts

Keeping your old posts up to date is always a good idea because it’ll keep people reading for longer if your posts are still relevant.

Check DA and Stats Monthly

So, every month I check my DA score and update my media kit. It’s a really simple task but one that’s easily forgotten! On my media kit I have my stats for the last 3 months and it’s a good idea to have it up to date in case you get anyone requesting it Your DA should also be on your media kit so I tend to update mine at the same time.

Check Broken Back Links

A back link is where someone posts a link to your blog. If that link gets broken, say because the page is removed, this will cause a broken back link. You can check for broken back links using a plugin or the Moz website. Admittedly, I haven’t done this on my own website yet but it’s on my to-do list. I’ve been avoiding it because it’s technical and it scares me lol!

Remove Spam Comments

Spam comments and those with between 1-3 words apparently don’t do your SEO any favours. So get shot of them!

Add Alt Text on Your Pictures

Alt text helps those who are visually impaired to understand what pictures you have included in your post. You just need to add a short description of what’s in your photo – for example… a young lady rowing a boat in a lake. Simple as that! It also helps your SEO too I believe!

Update Plugins

This is something that I try to keep on top of every time I log in to my dashboard. Purely because I don’t like waiting for them to update so the less there are the better for me! Keeping your plugins and themes updated will make sure everything runs smoothly and that you have access to any new features that might be released!

Add Links to Old Posts from New Posts

Going through your old posts and adding links to your new posts will not only help to keep people on your site for longer, but it also helps your SEO and DA too. Win win!

Update Media Kit

Alongside updating your daily view stats on your media kit when you check your DA, you should also update your follower numbers. When you pitch to a company, or if one approaches you, they’ll want to know how many people you have following you on each of your social media platforms.

So, there are the 8 blog maintenance tasks you should be doing to keep everything running tickety-boo! As I said earlier, this list isn’t everything that needs doing, but they’re the main ones. Do you keep up with things like this or do you keep putting them off?

Until next time, Steff xx
