Hey everyone, I’m back with another roundup and goals post but this time it’s a 2019 roundup instead of for the month. I’ve been a bit absent from the blogosphere for a number of reasons… Mainly because I’d been suffering with poor mental health for a while so had no motivation for anything. But I’m still going to look back on the past year with as much of a positive spin as possible. I’ll also set some realistic goals for the new year.
Joining the Gym
If someone had said to me a few years ago that I would join enjoy going to the gym, I’d have laughed in their face. Up until February this year, I’d never set foot in a gym and couldn’t see myself doing it. But when Sam decided she’d join with me, it gave me a little more confidence to bite the bullet and do it. A couple of months later Sam stopped going for a couple of reasons. However, I continued and started talking to one of the personal trainers in there. She kindly gave me a couple of free sessions to help build my confidence and I started sessions with her. I was so consistent, even I was surprised at how well I stuck at it! However, at the beginning of December, I quit until January because my mental health was deteriorating. Although I enjoyed going, I had zero motivation. I was eating really badly so I stopped going for a few weeks while I got my head in a better place.
A New Job
As I mentioned in this post, I bagged myself a new job and so far I’m really enjoying it! Obviously the extra holiday and money are a nice sweetener lol, I still think I made the right choice. Although the work isn’t as intense, it’s a lot more varied and it’s nice to have interaction with the students. I was also looking for somewhere that I could progress further in my career. Although it’s probably not something I’ll be doing any time soon, I feel like there is more opportunity to move around within the company than at my last job.
We were lucky enough to go on 2 holidays with the six of us in 2019. We went to Lanzarote for our summer holiday which was amazing. Also, we had a weekend away to Dover in the May half term. I also took Ant to Milan for his surprise 40th birthday present. They all seem like such a long time ago now but we made plenty of memories together. That’s what matters right?!
Teddy the Chihuahua
So, if you read my previous post about it being the wrong time to get a puppy. We got a puppy lol! He lived with my friend but, one of her twins was highly allergic so we decided to take him. He’s settling in so well, and we all love him to pieces. He’s got such a lovely character! He loves a good cuddle while he sleeps, and is the most gorgeous chihuahua I’ve ever seen. I’m not going to lie, I’ve never really liked chihuahuas as a breed. But I wouldn’t change him for the world. Teddy also has his on Instagram account so don’t forget to go and follow him here!
Goals for 2020
The last couple of years have definitely had a lot of ups and downs. And it’s really easy to focus on the negatives rather than the good stuff. So, I’m going to set myself some realistic goals for the new year, and try my hardest to stick to them!
Get Myself Healthy
My relationship with food and myself in general has taken a huge hit while I’ve been feeling down. I’ve been eating crappy foods way more than I should and then beating myself up when I’ve put weight on. Apart from going to the gym, I’ve basically found myself back at square one with my relationship with food. But I’m going to be trying my hardest to change that in 2020. I’m hoping when I do that, my weight will sort itself out too.
Save the Pennies
If 2019 showed me one thing it would be that we are absolutely shite at saving money! While it would be nice to save every bit of spare money we have at the end of the month, we’re going to try and save at least half of what we have. That way we can still enjoy ourselves. It’s nice to be able to go out for a meal when we want to, and to celebrate birthdays, etc. We didn’t manage to save anything this year. So I’m going to try and work out budgets for things like food shopping, and takeaways.
Although we had those times when we managed to get away, I would still like to be able to have more family days out. We’ve got passes for English Heritage sites and haven’t been once in the six months we’ve had them! We love learning about history and visiting these sites so I’m going to make more of a conscious effort to go and see some of them.
Get My Sh*t Together
I’ve said so many times in previous posts that I need to get my backside organised and so far it hasn’t happened. My family liken me to Monica from Friends because I’m usually so ahead of everyone else but this year it just didn’t work out. I’ve got myself a journal that’s actually called Get Your Sh*t Together so I’m determined to make it work for me. I feel this would also help my mental health so it’s definitely something worth trying! If you’d like to find out more about this journal, I’ve linked it on Amazon here (not an ad, just being nice!)
We don’t have loads to do around the house but there are a few small bits that need updating. We wanted to get the hallway, stairs and landing redecorated for most of this year but for a few reasons it didn’t happen. So that will be first to be done I think. Next we need to touch up the paint work in a few of the rooms. Small things like new skirting boards and curtain rails, and a general tidy up and declutter is in order.
Well, I think that’s it! Have you set yourself any goals for the new year? I don’t like calling them resolutions because everyone assumes you won’t stick to them! If you’ve got any aspirations for the new year let me know in the comments and leave links to your posts!
Thank you so much for reading my 2019 roundup and 2020 goals, hope you’ve all had a fab Christmas and all the best for the new year 🙂
Until next time, Steff xx
